McLaren-Honda drops MP4 tag for 2017 Formula 1 car
McLaren decides to drop the MP4 tag and use the new MCL in the wake of Ron Dennis' departure

The 2017 McLaren Formula 1 car will no longer use the “MP4-XX” tag it has used since 1981. McLaren has decided to drop the MP4 tag, and would instead be using the title MCL32 for their 2017 challenger which is set to be unveiled later this month.
The decision comes after the departure of former chief Ron Dennis late last year. With Zak Brown as the new executive director, the company has decided to freshen up its brand image this 2017 by using the MCL32 name instead.

Dennis was the man behind the original MP4 name, meaning Marlboro Project Four. Originally carried at the 1981 Argentine Grand Prix, the name continued until last year's F1 car, the MP4-31.
Along with name change to MCL, McLaren-Honda will be using a new color scheme as well. Again, as a way of freshening up the brand image of the company. We can expect to see the new MCL32 later this month on how the refreshed brand image looks.
