Two high-ranking officers leave GM
GM restructuring execs?
Staff Writer
Two days after the report of General Motors(GM) Global Marketing Chief Joel Ewanick's resignation from GM, Dave Lyon, one of GM's high-ranking designers also left the company with just days before his new job as a designer over at Opel.
No one knows about the executive shake-up that's been happening but GM stated that Ewanick "failed to meet the expectations the company has of its employees." They might be referring to Ewanick's decision on pulling out GM's advertisements from Facebook and next year's Super Bowl, and Chevrolet's controversial “Chevy Runs Deep” ad campaign.
Joel Ewanick joined GM in May 2010 in charge of marketing for the company's North America unit and was named global chief marketing officer in December 2010. Prior to joining GM, Ewanick was vice president of marketing and chief marketing officer for Nissan North America, but is best known for the work that he did for Hyundai Motor America as its vice president of marketing.
Meanwhile, Dave Lyon, who used to be one of GM's highest-ranking designers and future vice president of design for Opel and Vauxhall also left GM unexpectedly. He joined GM in 1990 and was greatly responsible for the interior design of the 2013 Cadillac XTS and the Chevrolet Volt.
"GM has a deep bench and a strong team. A few, unexpected changes will not slow us down," said Greg Martin, spokesperson of GM.
Alan Batey, vice president, U.S. Sales and Service, will assume the role of global chief marketing officer on an interim basis.
