Scandinavian Motors Corporation (SMC), the official importer and assembler of Volvo automobiles in the Philippines, recently launched R-Design models of the XC60 SUV and the S60 sedan. Described by the company of having a 'dynamic, driving-focused chassis with a powerful engine output', the R-Design variants have an updated exterior look, a refined interior and a more responsive chassis.

Both the XC60 and S60 bear a unique front fascia that has been altered to give the 2 cars a dynamic, expressive appearance. It also has a frameless Tech Matte Black grill that features high gloss stripes and a revised R-Designed emblem. Its DRLs are placed on the low section of the vehicle, highlighting the car's low, road-hugging look. The rear on the other hand gets a unique diffuser with aero fins paired with R-Design tailpipes.

Inside, sport seats come as standard for the R-Design vehicles which features black nubuck textile and perforated leather. Full leather seats are available as an option. Each R-Design also has the Adaptive Digital Display which features the option to switch between 3 layouts: Elegance, Eco and Performance. The Elegance theme has a blue radiant color on R-Design models.

The S60 now rides 15mm lower compared to the Dynamic model and the springs are now 15% stiffer, which provides a more responsive driving. It also has monotube rear dampers that delivers compression and return damping on the same valve, enabling a faster response from the dampers. The S60 R-Design's rear bushings are 20% stiffer in order to counteract oscillation and roll movements. Completing it all is a strut brace under the hood that makes the body structure more rigid.

For the XC60 R-Design, the chassis has also been stiffened to give more dynamic driving properties without compromising ride comfort according to Volvo PH. The shock absorbers and anti-roll bars have been tuned to be firmer and more balanced so as to have better control and a sportier drive.

An array of electronic driver aids come standard on both cars which include: Corner Traction Control, Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) and Engine Drag Control.
