Waiting for Mitsubishi to release an all-new ASX? Well it's going to take a while as the automaker will apparently delay its release, along with the new-generation Outlander.

In a report by Automotive News, the release of an all-new Outlander has been pushed back to 2019 or early 2020. Meanwhile, the ASX (called Outlander Sport in other markets) will only get to see the light of day after 2020. This comes after Mitsubishi joined the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

Supposedly, the company is studying whether the Outlander and ASX can share components and platforms with Nissan's own line of crossovers (X-Trail, Qashqai). If made possible, both Nissan and Mitsubishi can save on development costs while still offering distinct products.

“Now we are reviewing our future product lineup in order to maximize the alliance synergy effect. We will announce this matter at an appropriate time,” said Tetsuji Inoue, spokesman for Mitsubishi Motors.

Aside from the Outlander and ASX, the company is also looking into jointly developing the next-generation Navara and Strada. In our previous report, Mitsubishi chief operating officer Trevor Mann said that they are looking into using Mitsubishi's pickup architecture as the basis of building future alliance models.
