More BMW diesel models in PH get hybrid recognition from DOE
BMW PH's list of recognized HEVs continues to grow with the addition of X5 and X6 xDrive30d

Earlier this month, we learned that certain models offered by BMW Philippines are now recognized as hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). From the 520i to the 735i, as well as the X7 xDrive40d, these BMW models are now exempt from the number coding scheme and benefit from reduced tariffs.
Now, more BMW models have been recognized as HEVs after the Department of Energy (DOE) updated its list. This time, the turbo-diesel variants of the X5 and X6 have been recognized as hybrids. These include the X5 xDrive30d and the X6 xDrive30d. Both models come with a 3.0L TwinPower Turbo diesel engine that makes 265 PS and 620 Nm of torque.
The turbo-diesel inline-six also benefits from an electric motor that's integrated into the 8-speed automatic transmission. It makes 12 PS with 200 Nm and is powered by a small lithium-ion battery.

This allows the electric motor to power the X5 and X6 xDrive30d while coasting, which, under the DOE's guidelines, allows such vehicles to be categorized as HEVs. Moreover, the electric motor also gives the vehicles regenerative braking, which can recharge the lithium-ion battery on the go.
With both the X5 and X6 turbo-diesel models now also recognized as HEVs, those who want a premium midsize crossover SUV from BMW can now do so without having to worry about number coding. We're curious if BMW will be able to add more models to be recognized by the DOE soon.
