The company known the world over for making 3-wheelers recently announced that they will be introducing hybrid power to their lineup of sports cars by 2019. Morgan will be leading a GBP 6M project that will allow them to develop new powertrain technologies in collaboration with UK companies like Delta Motorsport and Potenza Technology.

Aside from developing hybrid powertrains, the company will also delve into all-electric motors as well in order to reduce vehicle C02 emissions further.

“This is a very exciting project for us. We have been involved in the research and development of new propulsion technology since the inception of the LifeCar project almost ten years ago. We are now ready to develop the best hybrid and electric drive-train solutions for production implementation before the end of the decade,” said Steve Morris, Managing Director of Morgan.

Morgan plans to make hybrid powertrains available to their lineup just before the end of the decade. Funding was provided by the British government through UK's Advanced Propulsion Center.

The company already tested their prowess in building an all-electric vehicle with the EV3 concept which debuted during the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The working prototype according to Morgan, has undergone road tests and they plan to release it to the market by the end of 2016.

The EV3 concept is driven by a single rear electric motor that puts out 75kw (102 PS) while curb weight comes in at less than 450kg. Estimated range of the EV3 concept is rated 240 km.
