Ford has recently unveiled new V6 engines that will be available for the 2015 Ford F-150.

First up is a standard 3.5L V6 gas engine that produces 286 PS with 345Nm of torque, which is capable of carrying a payload of 866kg, and can tow up to nearly 3450kg. Next is the 2.7L twin turbo Ecoboost V6 engine that boasts 329PS and a torque rating of 508Nm and has a higher carrying payload of 1020kg and a towing capability up to 3900kg. The Ecoboost variant is also equipped with an auto Start/Stop Function that saves on fuel consumption. Pressing on the brake pedal during a complete stop shuts off the engine; depressing the pedal restarts the engine. This feature is turned off during towing or in all-wheel drive.

The new F-150 is now 318kg lighter than the predecessor with the use of high-grade steel in its fully boxed ladder frame while military-grade aluminum alloys are used on the cabin. The shedding of weight has also benefited both the 3.5L V6 and the 2.7L Ecoboost V6. The 3.5L unit gained a 5% improvement in power-to-weight ratio over the previous 3.7L model while the 2.7L unit gained a 15% improvement over the 2014 F150 5.0L V8, which has the same torque rating with the EcoBoost.

The new F-150 even outperformed its competitors in towing a 3175kg-enclosed trailer; a Dodge Ram 1500 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel and a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3L V8. The test was conducted in Davis Dam in Arizona for the Society of Automotive Engineers J2807 towing standards approval.
