EcoSport-rival being considered by Hyundai PH
New subcompact crossover could be offered by Hyundai Philippines
If you're shopping in the EcoSport category, there may be another compact crossover in the market from Hyundai.
A very reliable source has confirmed to AutoIndustriya.com that Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the exclusive distributor of Hyundai in the Philippines, is seriously considering the Hyundai Creta for the market.
The Creta is a subcompact/B-segment crossover that was premiered by Hyundai Motor Company in India 6 weeks ago. The Creta features the latest design philosophy from the Hyundai brand called Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, a highly rigid body structure, advanced safety and convenience features (in other markets). During the premiere, Hyundai made the Creta available with a 123 PS 1.6L gasoline engine with a 6-MT, a 128 PS 1.6L U2 CRDI turbodiesel with either a 6-MT or 6-AT, as well as a smaller 1.4L turbodiesel.
Our contact states that the Hyundai Creta is still in its earliest planning stages for the Philippine market and that the chances of arrival of the crossover will depend largely on the response of the market as well as the potential pricing.
The real hurdle is that the Creta is manufactured in India (like the i20 and Eon) and does not enjoy any free-trade agreement to lessen tariffs, making competitive pricing even more challenging.
