Infiniti's future in SUV design has been revealed after the automaker arrived at the 2016 Beijing International Auto Exhibtion with the QX Sport Inspiration. Described as an elegant and powerful expression of progressive SUV design, the concept previews the brand's new-generation midsize SUV.

Starting with its design, the concept features muscular curves, taut lines and a coupe-like profile. It bears the company's distinct Powerful Elegance design language which is comprised of several key features like the double-arch grill, 'human eye headlights' and 'crescent-cut' C-pillars. Infiniti also claimed that its long hood, short overhangs, rear haunches and 3-dimensional 'blade-shaped' taillights provide the concept with an aggressive and dynamic aura.

Other exterior features worth noting on the concept SUV include: blade-shaped vents on the front fenders, sleek air intakes on the front bumper, rear-facing cameras that replace the side mirrors, panoramic glass roof, dual exhaust pipes and an integrated rear diffuser.

In terms of size, the QX Sport Inspiration measures 4,600mm long, 1,900mm wide (without the cameras) and 1,650mm tall. Infiniti also mentioned that the concept SUV has a 2,800mm wheelbase and a 230mm ground clearance.

Inside, the automaker claimed it has a handcrafted interior that is both driver- and passenger-oriented. Also set to lay the foundations of Infiniti's cabin design, the QX Sport Inspiration has a four-seat cabin layout which allows each occupant to have their own space. The 'floating' seats add more floor space to the already spacious cabin according to Infiniti.

Black saddle leather was used throughout the cabin and was applied on the seats, center console, lower dashboard, sections of the floor and kickplates. Completing the interior equipment of the QX Sport Inspiration concept are the digital instrument panel, multifunction 3-spoke steering wheel, paddle shifters, central rotary control for the infotainment system, dual zone automatic climate control with rear vents and a tablet-inspired display.

The car's exact powerplant was not revealed but there are reports that it could be driven by a twin-turbo V6 that will be mated to a 7-speed automatic.
